Rector of Odesa National Medical University Valeriy Zaporozhan received more than half a million inheritance from his wife.

The Center for Public Investigations learned this from a report on significant changes in the rector's property status.

According to the declaration filed on December 25, 2024, Zaporozhan received an inheritance of UAH 560,935.

The funds were received on December 16 from a citizen of Ukraine, Natalia Konstantinovna Zaporozhan. The source of the inheritance and its components are not specified.

In 2024, the rector submitted his annual declaration for 2023.

According to the document, Zaporozhan and his wife owned several properties. The family declared an apartment in Odesa with an area of 264.8 m², two parking spaces, as well as a country house and three land plots in the village of Kryzhanivka, Odesa district. All these properties belonged to his wife Natalia Konstantinovna Zaporozhan.

The Zaporozhans ' family assets totaled UAH 12.5 million. 8.3 million was accumulated by the rector himself and 4.2 million by his wife. During the year, the rector received 723.6 thousand hryvnias. Last year he had 409.8 thousand hryvnias of salary, 223.9 thousand hryvnias of pension, 55.2 thousand hryvnias of social assistance, and 34.5 thousand hryvnias of insurance payments.

As for vehicles, Valeriy Zaporozhan owned a 2016 Toyota Camry, and his wife owned a 2020 Lexus RX-450H.

On July 17, 2018, the Ministry of Health dismissed Valeriy Zaporozhan from the post of Rector of Odesa Medical University, explaining that he had violated his employment contract. Konstantin Aymedov was temporarily appointed acting rector. However, on August 30, the Kyiv District Administrative Court suspended the decision to dismiss him.

After that, the Ministry of Health replaced Aymedov with Professor Vladlena Dubinina. At the same time, the Academic Council of the university, with the participation of the former rector Zaporozhezhan, elected Yurii Sukhin as the head of the institution, but the Ministry of Health did not recognize this decision.

In November 2020, Valeriy Zaporozhan again headed Odesa Medical University, receiving the support of 78.4% of voters (812 votes), as reported on the university's official website.

Earlier, the Center for Public Investigations investigated the declarations of the rectors of the ten highest-rated Odesa universities. It found that rectors with higher incomes do not always head universities that are ranked higher in the Osvita.ua rating.
