Odesa has entered a new political era without Gennadiy Trukhanov, and a week after the former mayor was notified of being suspected, the first session of the city council under military administration took place.

The Accent discussed the first decisions, political moods, prospects and challenges for the city, which is experiencing a change of power but is still waiting for real change.

On October 31, the Pechersk District Court imposed a measure of restraint on former Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov in the form of round-the-clock house arrest and wearing an electronic bracelet. The mayor is accused of negligence in preparing the population for the natural disaster that killed 11 people in Odesa, nine of whom drowned and two died of heart attacks when they were swept away by the flood.

Eight people were notified of suspicion in connection with the tragedy, including deputy mayors Anna Pozdnyakova and Valeriy Silin, director of the City Roads utility Vadym Todiychuk, and director of the Municipal Economy Department Leonid Hrebenyuk.

On October 30, an extraordinary session of the Odesa City Council was held, which was broadcast online by Intent.
