Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine in Odesa region have completed a pre-trial investigation into the acting director of an enterprise specializing in research and experimental development in the field of natural and technical sciences.

According to the BES press service, the director is suspected of embezzling UAH 800 thousand.

"The investigation has established that, by prior agreement with employees of the state-owned enterprise, the acting director leased real estate to individuals and legal entities for cash for two years, without further reflection in accounting and tax reports," said Serhiy Muntyan, head of the BES in Odesa region.

During the pre-trial investigation, the court imposed a house arrest as a measure of restraint on the accused.

Currently, the criminal proceedings under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office) have been sent to court with the indictment.

Earlier, detectives of the Territorial Department of the Economic Security Bureau in Odesa region completed a pre-trial investigation against the director of a utility company of the Odesa City Council on the fact of tax evasion on a particularly large scale.

Also, detectives of the Main Detective Unit of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine completed a pre-trial investigation against two current and three former officials of the Odesa Customs and the head of an exporting company in a case of tax evasion on a large scale.

The Odesa-based company, which exports agricultural products, evaded paying UAH 158 million in taxes. Following the intervention of the Economic Security Bureau, the company reimbursed the state for the losses.
