Odesa defeated Kherson's Dnipro in the season opener

The "Odeshchina" hockey club defeated Kherson's "Dnipro" 5–4 in the opening game of the 2026–27 Ukrainian Championship season. The game took place on Saturday, September 26.

The Odessa team started the game strongly and scored three goals in the first period alone. In the seventh minute, Valentin Murin opened the scoring, becoming the scorer of the first goal of the new season. A minute later, Anatoliy Revuka doubled “Odeshchyna’s” lead, and shortly thereafter, Illia Shcherbak made it 3–0.

In the second period, Shcherbak scored his second goal, and Dmytro Kobylnyk netted his team’s fifth goal. “Dnipro” responded with accurate shots by Vladislav Kutsevich and Oleksandr Zhurenko.

In the final period, the Kherson team cut the deficit to a single goal but were unable to tie the game. The match ended with a 5–4 victory for “Odesshchyna.”

The Odessa hockey club “Storm” had previously announced a temporary move out of the city due to the unfit condition of the “Palace of Sports” ice arena. The reasons were technical issues and conditions at the arena that were unacceptable to the team.

At that time, the arena remained unfrozen, and the conditions offered by the facility’s administration on September 1 did not satisfy the team. The club assured fans that they would provide further updates regarding the final location for training and competition.
