The Department of Engineering Protection of the City Territory and Coastal Development of the Odesa City Council has announced a tender to select a contractor to be paid for the overhaul of the beach for people with disabilities.

This is reported in the Prozorro electronic procurement system.

It is a beach between the traverses No. 6-B and No. 7 of the second stage of landslide protection structures in the area of station 11 of the Big Fountain.

The procurement is scheduled for March 26 in the format of an open tender with special conditions with an expected purchase price of UAH 18 million 248.9 thousand.

In January, during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Labor of the Odesa City Council, the arrangement of a municipal beach for people with disabilities was discussed. At the time, the discussion was about more than 21 million hryvnias, but the final amount was promised to be announced after the design was completed and the cost estimate for all the planned work was calculated.

The beach will be developed in two stages - part of the work will be done this year, and completion is scheduled for next year, as it is impossible to implement everything before the start of the season.

The first stage involves the arrangement of a zone for people in wheelchairs - partly on special boards or flooring, and partly on sand. The beach will be adapted for different categories of people with disabilities, but at the same time will remain publicly accessible to all citizens.

The project also envisages the construction of a shelter that will meet all accessibility standards for people with disabilities, including the necessary passages and amenities. In addition, it is planned to open a first-aid post, equip showers and bathrooms.

Also in January, the First Deputy Mayor of Odesa , Oleksandr Filatov, postponed a meeting on the conversion of the beach at the 11th station of the Big Fountain into an inclusive beach due to the attention of activists who began to raise questions about the construction of that beach and linked this construction to the construction of a hotel complex next to the beach.
