On January 22, Odesa celebrated the Day of Unity of Ukraine with actions of unity and remembrance of the key events of Ukrainian statehood. In the city center and Shevchenko Park, citizens formed a human chain, unfurled a flag and raised funds to support the military.

This was reported by Intent.

On January 22, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Unity, a public holiday dedicated to the unity of Ukrainian lands and people. It was on this day in 1919 that the Act of Unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic was proclaimed on St. Sophia Square in Kyiv.

A peaceful procession was held in Odesa on the occasion of the Day of Unity. The event took place in Taras Shevchenko Park. The participants unfurled a large national flag and created a human chain as a symbol of unity, indestructibility, and shared responsibility for the country's future.

In addition, events were held in the center of Odesa to mark the Day of Unity. Participants formed a chain of unity, sang Ukrainian songs, reenacted historical events that took place 106 years ago, and raised funds to support the military.

Ukraine's Unity Day is celebrated annually on January 22. The holiday was officially introduced in 1999. This day also commemorates the events of January 22, 1918 - the adoption of the IV Universal of the Central Rada, which proclaimed the full independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic. The Unification Act of 1919 became a symbol of Ukrainians' desire to unite into a single, united and independent state.

For Ukraine, Unity Day is about unity in diversity, uniting around Ukrainian statehood and identity. The idea of the country's territorial integrity is combined with the idea of spiritual cohesion. Therefore, unity is inseparable from the nation's statehood, sovereignty, and independence, which is the foundation for building a democratic state.
