As a result of an attack by Russian FPV drones in downtown Kherson, the building housing the Kherson Regional Museum of Local History was damaged. The strike caused a fire in the technical rooms, which damaged part of the historic interior.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Museum of Local History.

According to the museum, the fire destroyed unique wooden museum display cases dating from the early 20th century. Made of natural wood, they had been used to display collections for over 120 years and were eventually intended to become museum exhibits themselves.

The museum noted that thanks to the timely evacuation of the collections, the museum’s holdings were not damaged.

The museum emphasized that Russian troops continue to deliberately destroy the historic center of Kherson and its cultural heritage, demolishing monuments that were created and preserved by generations.

Previously, the building of the Oleksiy Shovkunenko Kherson Regional Art Museum was designated withthe international “Blue Shield” protectionemblem. From now on, the museum is officially classified as a cultural heritage site under special protection under international law in the context of armed conflict.

As of May 2026, at least 11 museums in the Kherson region have been damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian aggression. At the same time, due to the temporary occupation of part of the region’s territory, it is currently impossible to determine the full extent of the destruction and damage.
