Occupants cover Kherson region with fire: one killed, eight wounded

The police recorded the consequences of new attacks by Russian troops on the Kherson region. On January 16, 2026, the enemy fired on the civilian infrastructure of the Kherson and Beryslav districts using artillery, mortars, and various types of drones.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police of Ukraine.

The shelling affected Kherson and 26 other settlements in the region, including Antonivka, Kizomys, Dniprovske, Veletynske, Sofiyivka, and Komyshany.

The shelling damaged 14 private houses and a car. At night, eight civilians aged 46 to 77 suffered mine-blast injuries and contusions under artillery fire in Komyshany. Five private houses were damaged in the area. In Bilozerka, three houses were damaged by artillery fire.

In the afternoon, Russians attacked a civilian car with an FPV drone in the Dniprovsky district of Kherson. The 54-year-old driver was seriously injured and died in hospital. The Russian military also continued shelling residential areas with artillery, damaging six more private houses. Several unmanned aerial vehicles hit a building of an educational institution that had already been damaged earlier.

According to the police, all emergency services worked quickly to eliminate the consequences of the attacks. The police collected evidence of war crimes committed by the Russian military.

Over the past 24 hours, law enforcement responded to 442 statements and reports from citizens about various offenses and incidents. Law enforcement officers opened 10 criminal proceedings under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "War Crimes".

On the night of January 15, Russian troops attacked 26 settlements in the Kherson region. The shelling damaged three multi-storey buildings and eight private houses, and destroyed a shop. One person died as a result of the aggression. The region remains under constant attack by artillery, aircraft and drones.
