A resident of the Kherson region was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property for participating in the organization and conduct of the so-called "referendum".

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The post says that with the support of the public prosecution, prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office found the resident of the region guilty of collaboration (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property, and deprived of the right to hold positions in state and local government and engage in activities related to the electoral process for a period of 10 years.

Thus, it was proved that in September 2022, the convict participated in the activities of the so-called"election commission" created by the occupation authorities to hold a pseudo-referendum on secession from Ukraine and the accession of the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region to Russia. As a member of the illegal commission, he went to the homes of residents of Tryfonivka village, Beryslav district, urging them to vote in favor of the aggressor country, issued "ballots" and kept records of those who voted.

The man will be kept in custody until the verdict enters into force. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU investigators in Kherson region.

Earlier it was reported that a local resident who convinced residents of Burhunka in Kherson region to "vote" for joining Russia was suspected. According to the investigation, the 66-year-old suspect voluntarily joined an illegitimate "precinct election commission" that operated on the territory of Burgunka, Beryslav district. The woman took part in the organization and conduct of a pseudo-referendum organized by the occupation authorities, which took place in September 2022.
