Activists of the NGO Decolonization.Ukraine have once again updated their map with the number of streets that they believe should be renamed, reducing their number in Odesa region from 150 in November to 139 as of December 5.

It should be noted that the previous update indicated that the number of streets and alleys that activists believe should be renamed decreased by 28 from August to November.

At the same time, Odesa region remained in fifth place in the country in terms of the number of place names to be decolonized. Mykolaiv region still has 59 place names, and Kherson region has one less than in November - 60.

Zaporizhzhia holds the top spot with 995 place names unchanged. Kyiv region has 223, Vinnytsia region - 194, and Kharkiv region - 273.

"The renaming process will continue. More than 20 more communities are in the process. We are waiting for the decisions to be approved. By the end of the year, more than 100 streets will definitely be renamed," the activists emphasized.

In September, Odesa updated the city's toponymy by renaming several streets and naming a park after Lesya Ukrainka. The changes affected both historical and new sites, taking into account public discussion and recommendations of the toponymic commission.

The Odesa City Council decided to rename Chapaeva and Seredna streets in honor of the fallen soldiers Viacheslav Kyrylov and Oleksandr Svishcho. The park at the corner of Fontanska Road and Lesia Ukrainka Avenue was also named after the poetess. During the session, the deputies agreed to unite Sacco and Architect Dmytrenko streets under one name - Architect Dmytrenko Street.

Also, the park at the intersection of Lesia Ukrainka Avenue and Fontanska Road was officially named after the poetess, whose memory is preserved in Odesa through her literary and cultural heritage.
