The treatment plant for the new Mykolaiv water supply system is scheduled to be fully operational in March 2026. According to Vasyl Telpis, Technical Director of Mykolaivvodokanal Vasyl Telpis, the works at the facility are ongoing around the clock, which allows the general contractor to keep to the schedule and plan to launch the treatment facilities in March.

He said this during an open staff meeting on January 12.

Earlier, Vitaliy Kim, head of Mykolaiv's water and wastewater treatment plant, said that the contractor was supposed to build the treatment plant by the end of 2025, so clean water is expected to be available in the city's taps in the near future. The new network, which was laid from Nova Odesa, will have a capacity of 120,000 cubic meters per day, which will fully meet Mykolaiv's water supply needs.

It should be added that two water pipelines are being built for the city at once: one to replace worn-out internal networks and the other, a main water supply from the Southern Bug. Since the President set a goal to complete the construction in a short time, international partners refused to finance the project, so the funds were allocated from the reserve fund of the State Budget of Ukraine. This allowed the work to proceed three times faster than originally planned.

It should be noted that in December 2025, Maksym Shkil, the founder of Avtostrada, received additional funding from the state. This allowed him to start a new stage of construction of the water pipeline to provide Mykolaiv with a sustainable water supply.

The Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service in Dnipro region has announced a new tender for the design and construction of a water intake facility from the Pivdennyi Buh River in Nova Odesa and a main water pipeline to supply water to Mykolaiv.

This third section of the large-scale water supply project is needed to address the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. The contract worth more than UAH 916 million was signed on November 27 with Avtostrada Group of Companies with a deadline of April 24.

The procurement was carried out under a non-competitive procedure, as it was decided to formalize the works as additional to the previous contract. This was justified by the fact that there was a need to order additional works from the same contractor, which is allowed by law if the additional works do not exceed 50% of the value of the previous contract.
