A 48-year-old man who threw a grenade at police officers in Voznesensk will be tried. The explosion killed one law enforcement officer and injured three others.

This was reported by the communications department of the Mykolaiv regional police.

The incident occurred on April 28, when patrol police crews responded to a call about a family quarrel. At the scene, they found a 48-year-old offender. The man began to confront the police, and when they tried to detain him, he threw a grenade in their direction.

Police officer <b>Maksym Ryzhko</b>, 21, died on the spot, and three of his colleagues received shrapnel wounds to their limbs and were hospitalized.

Investigators immediately detained the attacker, notified him of suspicion and chose a measure of restraint in the form of no alternative detention. He is charged with two crimes: an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer (Article 348 of the Criminal Code) and illegal handling of weapons and ammunition (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code).

The pre-trial investigation is now complete. The criminal proceedings were forwarded to the Voznesensk District Prosecutor's Office, which has already sent the indictment to court. The court will decide on the man's fate; he faces life imprisonment for his crime.

Earlier in Mykolaiv region, a serviceman who threatened to detonate a grenade in an ATB supermarket in September 2024 was found guilty. The man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to imprisonment.

And in early March, a Mykolaiv court imposed a pre-trial restraint on a 43-year-old serviceman suspected of throwing a grenade into the territory of one of the territorial recruitment and social support centers in Voznesensk district. The incident occurred in late February 2025. According to the investigation, the serviceman, who had previously left his unit without permission, was intoxicated and had a negative attitude towards the activities of the TCC and SP.

Another Mykolaiv serviceman was sentenced for illegal possession of a live grenade. The court took into account his service and changed his sentence.
