The Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa considered an indictment against Volodymyr Skorobohatskyi, a native of Mykolaiv and a lieutenant colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was found guilty of organizing a scheme that allowed him to misappropriate the salaries of military personnel who served only on paper.

This is reported on the website "Anti-Corruption Dimension".

As a deputy commander for the rear, the lieutenant colonel was to provide his self-propelled artillery division with material and technical resources. In this position, the defendant was able to indulge soldiers who left the service without permission and receive their accrued pay.

Thus, starting from October 2022, Skorobohatskyi covered up the absence of his subordinate at the location of the military unit, continuing to indicate him in the report cards. For this "service", the defendant demanded that he provide him with the soldier's bank card along with the details on which the soldier was paid. By the beginning of August 2024, when law enforcement officers put an end to the offender's actions, he managed to withdraw UAH 1 million 7 thousand 480 from the card.

In three other cases, the "profits" of the lieutenant colonel amounted to <span class="fontstyle0">UAH 340 thousand 718, </span> UAH <span class="fontstyle0">658 thousand 155</span> <span class="fontstyle0">and </span><span class="fontstyle0">UAH 404 thousand 390,</span> respectively<span class="fontstyle0">. In all of these cases, the accused facilitated the evasion of service by military personnel knowingly and with their consent.</span>

In an effort to whitewash himself, Skorobohatskyi claimed in court that he had fulfilled "informal agreements" with his command and that part of the misappropriated funds had been used to meet the needs of the unit. The court found the defendant guilty of <span class="fontstyle0">committing criminal offenses under Part 5 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 409 (</span>aiding in the evasion of a serviceman from performing military service by deception committed under martial law<span class="fontstyle0">), Part 2 of Article 364 (</span>abuse of office for the purpose of obtaining undue advantage) of the<span class="fontstyle0"> Criminal Code of Ukraine. </span>The penalty was imprisonment for five years with a probationary period of three years and a ban on holding leadership positions in military structures for two years.
