In Mykolaiv region, a deputy commander of a military unit accused of stealing almost 13 tons of diesel fuel intended for military units will be brought to trial.

This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office in the Southern Region.

According to the investigation, between April and September 2024, a senior lieutenant systematically stole military fuel for personal enrichment. He involved two subordinates in the scheme, who helped transport the fuel and sell it to local farmers. In total, almost 13 tons of diesel worth over UAH 800 thousand were sold, causing significant losses to the state.

Law enforcement officers detained the suspect in September 2024 after receiving money for another batch of fuel. The court imposed on him a custody as a measure of restraint with the possibility of bail in the amount of over UAH 2 million.

The investigation was conducted by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation in Mykolaiv. If the defendant's guilt is proven in court, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

Recently, a court in Mykolaiv released from criminal liability those involved in an attempt to steal 26 tons of corn. Among the suspects was a shunting dispatcher at a railway station. They escaped punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations - more than five years had passed since the crime.

Meanwhile, prosecutors of the Voznesensk District Prosecutor's Office served a notice of suspicion to the head of a state-owned enterprise in one of the communities in the Voznesensk district. According to the investigation, in April-May 2024, the 37-year-old official, using her official position, misappropriated budget funds intended for payments to pensioners and recipients of state aid.

Also last year, a group of people who organized the theft of diesel fuel from diesel locomotives was exposed in Mykolaiv region. A 42-year-old resident of the region created the criminal scheme by involving his acquaintances and drivers of the Mykolaiv locomotive depot of Ukrainian Railways. The stolen fuel was subsequently sold.
