The Mykolaiv Health Department has decided to merge the city's hospitals to save money in the city budget in wartime.

It was on this occasion that the second plenary meeting of the 45th session of the city council took place today, June 8, to consider the reorganization of municipal healthcare facilities.

The proposal submitted to the session aimed to turn six hospitals and one maternity hospital into three.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych said that the head of the healthcare commission of Mykolaiv city council, Hanna Nord, asked the deputies not to support the decision.

The vote was held without discussion, and the decision was not supported by the deputies.

Initiatives such as this project are not new. For example, in August of the year before last, the 1st and 2nd maternity hospitals were already combined.

Officials then explained this by saying that the amount of money received by medical institutions was extremely low. The level of funding from the NHSU also affects the salaries of specialists. Therefore, such a project to combine municipal healthcare facilities is a significant budgetary savings.

At the same time, Mykolaiv has allocated more than UAH 200 million in its 2025 budget for the development of the healthcare sector. The main emphasis is on financing hospitals and maternity hospitals and implementing preferential programs.

Earlier, the Mykolaiv Regional Council approved amendments to the charters of three medical institutions so that they could create LCCs instead of MSECs. However, the initiative to open pharmacies in hospitals was not supported due to the risk of losses and lack of financial calculations.
