Mykolaiv brigade of the TRO commented on the death of the commander

The Mykolaiv-based 123rd Territorial Defense Brigade is conducting an internal investigation into the circumstances of the death of the commander of the 186th separate battalion, Ihor Hryb.

This was reported on the brigade's official social media page.

Ihor Hryb, who was laid to rest in Pervomaisk on October 4, was called a loyal commander who always supported his unit and took care of its personnel.

"We wish the soldier-defender a blessed memory, our condolences to his family and friends," the statement said.

The brigade also said that an investigation is currently underway to establish all the details of the commander's death. The military leadership needs time to understand the situation in detail.

It is noted that the 123rd Brigade actively participated in the liberation of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, and since November 2022 has been performing combat missions to protect the Dnipro coast and islands in Kherson region. The brigade emphasized that it would provide additional information after the investigation is completed.

According to media reports, on October 4, the battalion commander of the 123rd TRO Brigade, Ihor Hryb, was said goodbye in Pervomaisk. The funeral took place in the central square of the city. Relatives, friends, comrades-in-arms and the public came to pay their respects to the defender.

Earlier, journalist Volodymyr Boyko reported that the 33-year-old commander shot himself on October 2 after his battalion fled from positions near Vuhledar,

"As a result, the town was lost for good," the journalist said in his post.

Earlier, journalist Yulia Kiriyenko-Merinova reported that the battalion commander shot himself.

"This unit was supposed to support the 72nd in Vuhledar. But the TRO infantry scattered somewhere. And then the commander shot himself. Because of them, the 72nd unit delayed its withdrawal from Vuhlehirsk. Because they were hoping," the journalist said.

Lieutenant Colonel Hryb will be buried on October 5, 2024 in Kryve Ozero, Mykolaiv region.
