Mykolaiv summarized the region's achievements in sports in 2024 and announced plans for 2025. The briefing highlighted the participation of regional athletes in Ukrainian championships, international competitions, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the success of athletes with disabilities.

According to Mykhailo Nikolaiev, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, in 2024, Mykolaiv athletes won 909 medals, including 242 gold medals. Among the main achievements is participation in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Invasport Sports Center also showed excellent results with 79 medals, including 30 gold.

Mikhail Nikolaev emphasized the support of young and promising athletes, emphasizing the scholarships and awards that will be provided to the most outstanding athletes. It was also noted that work continues to restore sports infrastructure after damage from shelling.

Mykolaiv region also actively supports initiatives for the development of youth policy, including cooperation with international partners in the framework of trainings and the creation of a youth center.

In 2025, it is also planned to continue developing sports infrastructure, supporting young athletes, and increasing the number of international events in the region.

Recently, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine published a national rating of sports institutions for 2024, evaluating their achievements in international and national competitions.

Two schools from Mykolaiv were included in the top ten specialized children's and youth sports schools of the Olympic reserve: The cycling school took 4th place and the fencing school took 9th place.

In addition, Mykolaiv plans to increase funding for the prize fund for gifted athletes. Previously, it was about one million hryvnias, but now it will be increased to two million. This decision was made due to the increase in the number of scholarship holders after Mykolaiv athletes participated in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as a large number of important competitions scheduled for this year.

In 2024, more than three thousand athletes from Mykolaiv region took part in about 100 competitions at various levels and 35 training camps, winning numerous championships and cups in the world, Europe and Ukraine.
