Police detained a 39-year-old woman in Odesa on suspicion of throwing her newborn child out of a dormitory window.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, on September 8, in the afternoon, the police received a report from the head of a dormitory in the Prymorskyi district that an infant with no signs of life had been found near the building.

The police found out that the mother of the deceased child was a 39-year-old woman from a neighboring region. While staying in a dorm room on the sixth floor, at her roommate's place of residence, after drinking alcohol, the woman gave birth to a daughter and immediately threw her out of the window onto the street. After the crime, she tried to hide the traces of the crime.

Preliminarily, the child was born alive and died from injuries sustained as a result of a fall from a height. The woman is currently in a maternity hospital under the supervision of doctors and police.

Her actions were classified under Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Intentional murder by a mother of her newborn child immediately after childbirth). If her guilt is proven, the woman faces restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for the same term.

The issue of serving the suspect a notice of suspicion and choosing a measure of restraint is currently being decided. As part of the pre-trial investigation, a number of forensic examinations will be conducted, including a forensic psychiatric examination, which will determine the woman's sanity.

The woman has a young son who lives with his grandmother in Mykolaiv region. Law enforcers passed the information about the mother to the social service to decide the child's fate.

In June, a newborn baby died in Odesa Maternity Hospital #5. The girl's mother, Olena Boyko, accused the doctors of delaying the provision of necessary assistance.
