More than 200 Crimean political prisoners are in Russian detention centers and colonies

In the occupied Crimea, the Russian authorities continue systematic repression, sparing no one - neither women, nor people with disabilities, nor the elderly or youth. Hundreds of people are victims of arbitrary arrests, unlawful sentences and are being held in Russian colonies and detention centers.

According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, as of today, 231 Crimean political prisoners are being held in Russian pre-trial detention centers and colonies.

Russians have imprisoned:

• 9 women who are subjected to both physical and psychological pressure;
• 6 people with disabilities, for whom the conditions of detention are a real torture due to the lack of access to medical care
• 60 parents with many children who are separated from their families and their children are left without proper care;
• 34 young people whose future was brutally taken away due to the arbitrary actions of the occupiers
• 17 elderly people suffering in inhumane conditions, often without access to medicines and support.

"These figures are only part of the tragedy unfolding in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Behind every statistic are the fates of real people, their broken lives and shattered families," the CTRC notes.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center categorically condemns the actions of the Russian authorities and demands that Russia immediately release all Crimean political prisoners, stop political persecution and repression in the temporarily occupied territory, and comply with international humanitarian law and stop human rights violations.

Since 2017, 10,018 violations of fundamental human rights have been recorded in the Russian-annexed Crimea, 6,730 of which were committed against members of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people. Therefore, on the International Human Rights Day, which is celebrated on December 10, the CTRC is launching a social media storm"De-occupation of Crimea - return of human rights". They call on everyone to post on their social media one of the posters offered on their website, which were developed by activists of the international movement for the de-occupation of Crimea and solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people #LIBERATECRIMEA and designed by Ukrainian artist Andriy Yermolenko.
