Moldova's Consul General Ion Chorny Dies at 20-Year Diplomatic Service

On April 16, the Consul General of Moldova in Odesa, Ion Chorny, died. He passed away due to illness.

The loss was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deepest condolences on the death of Mr. Ion Chorny, a diplomat with a brilliant career, former ambassador and head of missions to a number of foreign missions of the Republic of Moldova," the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Chorny has devoted more than 20 years to the diplomatic service, working both in the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in diplomatic missions in Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, and Ukraine.

In recent years, he headed the Consulate in Odesa, where he actively promoted the interests of the Republic of Moldova and protected the rights of Moldovan citizens abroad.

"From the first days of the war in Ukraine, Ion Chorny was on the front line, performing his duty with courage and dedication, supporting Moldovan citizens in the conflict zone," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also emphasized his professionalism, dedication to service and significant contribution to the development of Moldova's relations with Eastern European countries.

The date of the farewell will be announced later.

Intent wrote that judge and deputy chairman of the Odesa Court of Appeal Andrii Dryshliuk recently passed away. The cause of the judge's death was not announced. Andrii Dryshliuk was a guest on the IzbirKom FM podcast. He spoke about international projects, judicial reform, and judges' incomes.

Also in Odesa, a conservatory teacher and musician Natalia Buzanova died. Valeriy Hait, vice president of the World Club of Odessans and one of the co-founders of the Odesa Humorina, died on February 1.

On January 29, Tatiana Belova, a person who devoted her life to supporting national cultures and developing interethnic cooperation in the Odesa region, passed away.
