A court has imposed a pre-trial restraint of detention without bail on a 48-year-old resident of Voznesensk, Mykolaiv region, on suspicion of throwing a grenade at police officers.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, on April 28, two crews of inspectors from the patrol police response sector of the Voznesensk district police department arrived at a call about a family quarrel. At the scene, the police found a man who was behaving aggressively, clashed with law enforcement officers, and during an attempt to detain him, threw an explosive device in their direction.

The explosion killed a 21-year-old policeman, and three of his colleagues sustained shrapnel wounds to their limbs and were hospitalized. The man was detained. If proven guilty, he faces a sentence of nine to fifteen years in prison or life imprisonment.

Earlier in Mykolaiv region, a serviceman who threatened to blow up a grenade in an ATB supermarket in September 2024 was found guilty. The man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to imprisonment.

And in early March, a Mykolaiv court imposed a pre-trial restraint on a 43-year-old serviceman suspected of throwing a grenade into the territory of one of the territorial recruitment and social support centers in Voznesensk district. The incident occurred in late February 2025. According to the investigation, the serviceman, who had previously left his unit without permission, was intoxicated and had a negative attitude towards the activities of the TCC and SP.

Another Mykolaiv serviceman was sentenced for illegal possession of a live grenade. The court took into account his service and changed his sentence.
