Law enforcers detain Odesa city council official for bribe of 100 thousand

Police and the Security Service of Ukraine detained the acting head of one of the district administrations of the Odesa City Council in Odesa.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

According to law enforcement officers, by prior conspiracy with currently unidentified persons, he asked an entrepreneur for UAH 100,000 for a positive decision on the approval of the placement of four trade kiosks. In addition, the entrepreneur had to pay a thousand hryvnias in kickbacks for each kiosk every month.

Law enforcement officers documented the official's illegal actions and detained him in a procedural order while he was receiving UAH 100,000 bribe.

The police investigators served the suspect a notice of suspicion of requesting and receiving by an official holding a responsible position an unlawful benefit for himself and a third party for the official's performance of any action in the interests of the person providing such benefit and the third party, using his official position, committed by prior conspiracy.

According to the sanction of Article 368(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

The court imposed on the suspect a custodial measure of restraint with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 2 million 271 thousand.

Earlier, the Kyiv District Court of Odesa found the serviceman guilty of influence peddling and fined him three thousand tax-free minimum incomes, which amounts to UAH 51 thousand.
