A 52-year-old woman who took an active part in the illegal pseudo-referendum during the occupation of the city was exposed in Kherson. In addition to her, two other Kherson residents were notified of suspicion, but in absentia.

According to the press service of the National Police of the region, in September 2022, the woman joined the "election commission" operating in Kherson and participated in the preparation and holding of a pseudo-referendum on the region's accession to the Russian Federation. Together with other participants, two of whom acted as "heads of commissions", she formed "voter registers", issued and counted ballots, compiled lists of those who "cast their votes", and also involved local residents in the work of the commissions and actively organized campaigning in favor of the aggressor country. The woman also participated in organizing the "expression of will" process, convincing Kherson residents to vote for joining Russia.

After counting the votes, the commission, which included the suspect, recognized the results of the illegal "referendum" as valid. She was notified of suspicion of collaboration for her actions. Investigators classified her actions under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with possible deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of 10 to 15 years, as well as confiscation of property.

The prosecutor's office added that in addition to this woman, two other residents of the region were suspected of collaboration, two of whom are wanted.

Earlier, Intent wrote that in Kherson region, a woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison for collaborating with the occupiers, her property was confiscated and she was banned from holding public office or engaging in public activities for 15 years.
