For the first time in her career, Ukrainian tennis player Yulia Starodubtseva made it to the main round of the WTA 500 tournament in the Chinese city of Ningbo.

This was reported by Suspilne.Sport.

Starodubtseva began her journey to the main draw with a victory in the first qualifying round over Australian Priscilla Hon (7:6, 6:1). In the final of the qualifiers, the Ukrainian met a familiar opponent - German Tamara Korpach, whom Yulia had already defeated this year at Roland Garros.

The decisive match ended with a confident victory for the Ukrainian in two sets: 6:1, 6:3. The match lasted 1 hour and 33 minutes and was completely under the control of Starodubtseva, who demonstrated high efficiency on the receiving end. In the first set, she immediately made a breakthrough, winning the opening three games, and allowed the German to take only one game. In the second game, Starodubtseva also seized the lead (4:1), and although Korpach briefly closed the gap, the Ukrainian finalized the victory with a score of 6:3.

With this triumph, Yulia Starodubtseva made it to the main draw of the WTA 500 for the first time in her professional career . She will join another Ukrainian representative, Diana Yastremska, who has reached the main draw of the Ningbo Open tournament by ranking.

This year's Wimbledon has already become extremely rich in sensations. A large number of favorites were eliminated in the first rounds, with only seven of the top 20 players in the WTA rankings reaching the last 16. The matches of Ukrainian tennis players were no exception to the unexpected results.

However, the main event of the first round, not only for Ukrainians but also for the entire world of tennis , was the match between Diana Yastremska and Coco Goff. The Ukrainian sensationally outperformed her titled opponent (second in the world rankings) in all aspects of the game (more balls won, fewer errors, better serve percentage), and in two sets she dealt with her opponent, creating a loud sensation.
