Kherson Resident Joins Putin's United Russia, Faces Collaboration Charges

During the occupation, a resident of Kherson region joined Putin's political party and was elected to the "council of deputies" in Hola Prystan.

According to the Kherson Region Prosecutor's Office, the 60-year-old suspect voluntarily joined Putin's United Russia political party in September 2023 and took part in the "elections" to the illegal government body, the "council of deputies of the Hola Prystan municipal district."

"The man took part in the meetings of the 'session' by joining the 'Standing Committee on Industry, Urban Planning, Infrastructure Development and Entrepreneurship Support'. In February 2024, he headed the "budget commission" and joined the "commission on land and agriculture," the statement said.

In addition, the prosecutor's office noted that the man actively worked with the local population in the occupied territory, popularizing the illegal government and the aggressor country in particular.

Under the procedural supervision of the Kherson Regional and Skadovsk District Prosecutor's Offices, the resident of the region was served a notice of suspicion of collaboration in absentia.

Earlier, two residents of Kakhovka, who took part in the illegal elections held in September 2023 in the temporarily occupied left bank of Kherson region and were elected as "deputies" from the political parties of the aggressor state, were suspected of collaboration.

Prior to that, under the procedural supervision of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, indictments were sent to court against three residents of the region on charges of collaboration. Earlier, three residents of the Kherson region who helped Russians hold an illegal referendum were sentenced to ten years in prison with the deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the electoral process for fifteen years. The Kherson court also found a local resident guilty of collaborating with the occupiers during the pseudo-referendum in Kherson region. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
