A special light masking regime will be in effect in Kherson region from 21:00 to 05:00. During this time, it is forbidden to turn on street lighting and lighting in residential buildings.

This decision was made during a meeting of the regional Defense Council, said Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.

According to the official, the meeting focused on security issues during the Easter holidays. Given the constant threat from the enemy, the regional authorities are preparing for possible provocations. The police and other law enforcement agencies are planning to intensify patrolling of settlements during the holidays. Residents were urged not to ignore air raid warnings, avoid mass gatherings and strictly adhere to restrictions.

The head of the Regional Military Administration noted that special attention was paid to the safety of residents of the regional center. The Defense Council authorized the purchase and installation of ten street shelters in Kherson. They promised to install them in the most crowded areas of the city.

"A special mode of light camouflage has been established in the region from 21:00 to 05:00. During this time, it is forbidden to turn on street lights and lights in residential buildings," Prokudin said in a statement.

In addition, the meeting decided to provide additional support to the military defending the region.

What is camouflage and why is it important?

Light camouflage is a set of measures aimed at concealing from enemy observation any light sources that can reveal the location of military, strategic facilities, settlements, enterprises or governing bodies. This includes both air and ground reconnaissance of the enemy.

The light camouflage regime is necessary in those regions of Ukraine where the threat from the air remains. The decision to introduce or cancel it is made by civil-military administrations, depending on the operational situation and recommendations from the military.

There are two types of camouflage:

Partial - effective at night, often coinciding with curfews. In this case, it is allowed to leave the light on in only one room, dim it, and close the windows with cloth or curtains.

Full - used during an air raid alert. All light sources should be completely turned off: in buildings, entrances, and on the streets. This applies to street lighting, advertising signs, shop windows, etc.
