Kherson convicts law enforcement officer who brutally beat a soldier

Kherson City Court found guilty of abuse of power and official authority a law enforcement officer who unreasonably beat a serviceman during his detention.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.

The incident occurred in Kherson in August 2024, when a local resident called the police because of a noisy Independence Day celebration. While talking to the troublemakers, one of the police officers punched the serviceman in the face, knocked him to the floor and began kicking him. He then dragged the victim out of the apartment and into the stairwell, handcuffed him and continued to abuse him. The violence continued even on the street. The court found the law enforcement officer guilty under Part 2 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or official authority) and sentenced him to a three-year prison term and deprivation of his special rank. The verdict may be appealed within 30 days. The Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office provided procedural guidance based on the investigation by the SBI and the National Police's Internal Affairs Department.

In Odesa, a civilian beat an employee of the Prymorskyi district CMC and JV during a document check. the incident occurred on March 6 on Rozumovska Street. While the officers of the Prymorskyi District Military and Criminal Investigation Center were checking military registration documents, one of the men suddenly became aggressive and inflicted bodily harm on the officer. Law enforcement officers responded promptly to the situation, which allowed them to quickly end the conflict. Subsequently, the offender pleaded guilty and publicly apologized to the injured serviceman. The conflict was resolved peacefully, and the parties reached an agreement.
