A resident of Kherson received a harsh sentence for participating in a pseudo-referendum during the occupation of the city. He was sentenced to 10 years and confiscation of property for cooperation.
This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the case file, in September 2022, the accused participated in the organization and conduct of the so-called "referendum" held under the control of the occupation authorities of Kherson region. The man acted as the "secretary of the precinct election commission", which was located in one of the local schools. His duties included compiling voter lists, identifying citizens and counting votes.
The court found the man guilty of collaboration (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 5 of Article 111-1) and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. In addition, the Kherson resident is banned from holding positions in state and local government and working in public services for the next 15 years.
Recently, three residents of the Kherson region who helped the Russians to conduct an illegal referendum were sentenced to ten years in prison with the deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the electoral process for fifteen years.
Meanwhile, the Russian occupation authorities are planning to hold another pseudo-election in Kherson region and other temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The collaborators received an order to create nine single-member districts in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in particular in Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Donetsk regions. The purpose of these actions is to increase the number of so-called "deputies" to the State Duma of the Russian Federation who will represent the interests of the occupiers.
Law enforcement officers also served a notice of suspicion to a resident of Kakhovka who was preparing "elections" in the occupied Kherson region.
