In Odesa, a doctor at the Bilyayivska Hospital was taken into custody on suspicion of accepting a bribe. According to the investigation, he issued fake medical documents to avoid military service.

The Kyiv District Court of Odessa issued the corresponding ruling.

According to the investigation, on February 4, 2026, a doctor at the Bilyayivka Multidisciplinary Hospital learned during a meeting with a man that the man had a medical condition and was planning to undergo treatment and, subsequently, appear before a military medical commission. After that, according to the investigation, the doctor offered to arrange so-called inpatient treatment for the man and to prepare medical documents with fictitious diagnoses.

These documents were then to serve as the basis for establishing a disability category and obtaining a deferment from mobilization. The doctor demanded 8,000 U.S. dollars for his services.

Investigators determined that between February and October 2026, the doctor allegedly arranged for treatment, provided medical reports with fabricated diagnoses, and demanded money for further processing of the documents. The man himself informed law enforcement about the alleged scheme.

Specifically, on October 12, the doctor received another installment of the agreed-upon amount—$2,100. The man placed the money in the trunk of his car as instructed by the doctor. During a search of the vehicle, investigators seized the funds. On the same day, the doctor was notified that he was suspected of accepting a bribe to influence a public official’s decision.

The judge ruled to keep the suspect in custody until December 8, 2026. At the same time, the judge set bail at 998,400 hryvnias. If the bail is posted, the doctor is to be released from custody, but he will be required to comply with a number of procedural obligations, including refraining from communicating with witnesses in the case and wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet.
