Damage to the nature reserve fund of the Kherson region as a result of the full-scale war exceeded 1 trillion 278 billion 759 million hryvnias. This refers to damage caused to natural areas by shelling and fires.
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspection of the Southern District.
According to the inspection, enemy shelling and the resulting fires are destroying vegetation and damaging natural ecosystems and habitats of living organisms within the region’s nature reserve fund.
Environmentalists continue to document the consequences of Russian attacks and calculate the extent of the damage caused.
According to preliminary estimates as of early September 2026, the damage to the Kherson region’s nature reserve fund amounted to over 1,278,759,138,000 hryvnias.
The collected evidence is being forwarded to the relevant government and law enforcement agencies. It is intended to form part of the body of evidence regarding environmental crimes caused by Russian aggression.
Recently, in July, Russian shelling sparked fires in the“Askania-Nova” Biosphere Reserve. Approximately 10,800 trees and other plants were destroyed there.
Earlier, officials at the “Askania-Nova” Reserve warned of the threat ofanimal deaths due to a lack of feed for ungulates following the drought of 2025. Experts warned that without additional feed, mass animal deaths could occur this winter.
