In Engels, Russia, located in the Saratov Region, a major general was wounded—the same man who ordered the strike on Odesa in 2022. At that time, a missile struck the “Tiras” residential complex and killed an entire family.
According to Krym Realii, the attack took place on the morning of September 3 in the village of Probudzhennya near Engels. A man on a motorcycle pulled up to a private home and fired two shots at the military officer.
The Russian Investigative Committee reported that shell casings and bullets were recovered at the scene. A criminal case has been opened on charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
Russian law enforcement officials have not officially released the name of the wounded man. At the same time, Russian media and Telegram channels claim that the victim is Major General Mykola Varpakhovych, commander of the 22nd Heavy Long-Range Bomber Aviation Division of the Russian Aerospace Forces. This information has not yet been officially confirmed.

According to the Odesa Regional Police, it was Varpakhovich, as commander of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Division, who organized the missile strike on Odesa on April 23, 2022.
On that day, a Russian missile destroyed the “Tiras” residential complex in Odesa. Eight people were killed in the building, and another 18 were injured.
The tragedy claimed the lives of three-month-old Kira Glodan, her mother Valeria, and her grandmother Lyudmila, as well as a pregnant athlete and her husband. Valeria’s husband, Yuriy Glodan, had gone to the store just before Easter and survived. But after the death of his family, he enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was later killed in the combat zone.
