In Odesa, a nighttime arson attack on a car of an NGO resulted in a real prison term for a foreigner. The court found that the crime was carefully planned, and the perpetrator already had criminal experience.

This is evidenced by the verdict of the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa

According to the investigation, a Moldovan citizen set fire to a car belonging to the NGO Military Chaplains of the Carpathians. The incident occurred on the night of October 6, 2025, on Kanatna Street.

According to the case file, the man had prepared for the crime in advance. He arrived at the parking lot of the Volkswagen Amarok, made sure that no one was watching him and that there were no unauthorized persons nearby. He then poured a flammable substance on the hood of the vehicle, the composition of which the investigation was unable to determine, and set it on fire using an unidentified device.

The examination later confirmed that the remains of a mixture of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, as well as traces of oil and bitumen, were found at the scene of the fire. This is evidence of deliberate preparation for arson rather than spontaneous actions.

After the attack, the perpetrator immediately fled the scene. As a result of the arson, the car was severely damaged, and the organization suffered losses in excess of UAH 774 thousand.

During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt, confirmed the circumstances of the crime and expressed remorse. The court took this into account as a mitigating circumstance, but also established an aggravating factor - recidivism, as the man had previously been convicted of other crimes.

The court concluded that the defendant had a persistent tendency to commit criminal offenses, did not learn from the previous sentence, and committed an intentional crime again. In view of this, correction without isolation from society was deemed impossible.

As a result, the court sentenced him to 6 years in prison. In addition, the convict will be charged with more than UAH 28 thousand in procedural costs for conducting examinations.

Also in April, in Odesa, a court took into custody a 25-year-old man suspected of setting fire to a military vehicle and collaborating with enemy special services. According to the investigation, he was carrying out tasks via Telegram and was preparing for an even more serious crime - a terrorist attack.
