The building at 1aKanatna Street is of historical value - it was built in the late 19th century as a barracks for the border guard, and in the 1920s and 30s a kindergarten operated here. The building was damaged on July 20, 2023, when Russian drones and missiles attacked Odesa once again. The shelling destroyed an administrative building, damaged office space, apartment buildings, educational institutions, including a lyceum and a kindergarten, and cars.

Eight people were injured in the attack, including three rescuers from the State Emergency Service. They sustained shrapnel wounds and combustion product poisoning. A 21-year-old security guard was killed in the rubble.

The attack also damaged the port infrastructure and warehouses of a private enterprise in Odesa district, but no casualties were reported in the region. The prosecutor's office launched a pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war.

The building of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China was also damaged.

The building was repaired under a tender announced in May and October 2024. The mayor's office has allocated more than 4 million hryvnias for the restoration.

Recently, the Odesa National Art Museum restored a historic door that was damaged during a rocket attack on Sofiivska Street in 2023. The front door was fully restored and regained its authentic appearance.
