Police in Mykolaiv detained a 24-year-old apartment owner after the death of a 19-year-old girl he was illegally detaining. Her death could have been caused by systematic violations of her rights and her inability to leave the apartment.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Mykolaiv region.

During the investigation into the death of the 19-year-old girl, law enforcement officers found that her death could have been due to systematic violations of her rights and inability to leave the apartment. Investigators detained the 24-year-old owner of the apartment and notified him of suspicion of illegal deprivation of liberty that caused grave consequences.

The tragedy on Okeanivska Street was reported by a local resident on December 10: a girl fell from the ninth floor of a high-rise building. Doctors hospitalized the victim with injuries, but could not save her.

To establish the causes of the incident, the police conducted a series of investigative and operational measures. It was established that the victim had been living in the apartment for some time with her 24-year-old landlord and four other acquaintances aged 14 to 24 - three boys and one girl.

It is known that the girl had been subjected to unlawful acts, and her exit from the apartment was blocked. At the time of the tragedy, she had been alone in the locked apartment for several hours.

The police have now detained the owner of the apartment in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and notified him of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code - illegal deprivation of liberty that caused grave consequences. He faces up to ten years in prison. The court will soon choose a measure of restraint.

Physical evidence was seized from the scene. Investigators are also taking actions against other residents of the apartment and have ordered a number of examinations, the results of which will determine the legal qualification of their actions. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Also recently, in Odesa, a man was found guilty of kidnapping and raping a woman in the premises of the Kherson pre-trial detention center. The incident took place on November 11, 2022, the day the city was liberated from occupation. According to the investigation, the accused, a native of Tavriysk, previously convicted, lured the woman to the detention center under the pretext of checking her documents. There he held her against her will for several hours, threatened her with physical violence, inflicted bodily harm and committed sexual assault.
