Fourth Crimean Platform Summit to be held in Sweden

On November 24, the Swedish capital, Stockholm, will host the Fourth Parliamentary Summit of the Crimean Platform. This international event, dedicated to the de-occupation of Crimea and strengthening international pressure on the aggressor, will be chaired by the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk and the Chairman of the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) Andreas Norlen.

Together they will welcome to Stockholm the heads of national parliaments and representatives of inter-parliamentary organizations from around the world.

The organizers of the event emphasize that the summit once again demonstrates the unwavering international support for Ukraine and the immutability of the Crimean issue on the global agenda.

The participants of the meeting plan to inform international partners about the terrible consequences of Russia's occupation and annexation of Crimea, discuss existing threats to the region and develop new, more effective approaches to liberating the peninsula and protecting the rights of citizens in the temporarily occupied territories. Special attention will be paid to sanctions, as well as economic and environmental damage caused by Russian aggression.

Riksdag Speaker Andreas Norlen, emphasizing the need for increased support, said: ''Russia's aggressive war is a flagrant violation of international law and an attack on democracy and human rights. The world must step up its support for Ukraine's struggle to defend its statehood and restore its territorial integrity.

The International Platform for the De-occupation of Crimea (the "Crimean Platform") is an initiative of the Ukrainian authorities, which is a consultative and coordination format for protecting the rights of Crimeans and de-occupying the annexed peninsula by coordinating the actions of Ukraine and international partners.

Since its inception, the Parliamentary Dimension of the Platform has demonstrated growing international support every year: The first parliamentary summit took place in 2022 in Croatia, bringing together 55 delegates from 44 countries and international institutions. The second summit was held in Prague, Czech Republic, and brought together 66 representatives from 51 countries, and the Third Parliamentary Summit, which took place in Latvia last year, attracted more than 70 delegations, including 36 heads of parliaments. The growing number of participants shows that the issue of de-occupation of Crimea remains on the global agenda.
