Former Kherson Village Council Head Faces Trial for 500K UAH Embezzlement

The former acting head of a village council in Kherson region, who embezzled more than half a million hryvnias of budget funds, will be tried.

According to the Kherson Region Prosecutor's Office, in 2019, the defendant, fulfilling an agreement to equip a sports, gymnastics and children's playgrounds in one of the settlements of the Velyko Oleksandrivska community, signed acceptance certificates for the work performed.

At the same time, at the time the official documents were drawn up, no construction work had actually been carried out. Later, under the payment order, the private enterprise was unjustifiably transferred more than half a million hryvnias, which caused significant losses to the state.

Under the procedural supervision of the Beryslav District Prosecutor's Office, an indictment was sent to court against the former acting head of one of the village councils of Beryslav district on the fact of embezzlement of budget funds in large amounts and forgery.

Earlier, prosecutors sent to court a case against a former principal of a Kherson school who illegally rewarded her colleagues. In 2022, the accused, without any legal grounds, issued an order to award bonuses to 23 employees of the secondary education institution for July. The amount of bonuses for several of them was 60 thousand hryvnias. By her actions, the accused caused the embezzlement of local budget funds, causing damage to the Kherson city territorial community in excess of UAH 500 thousand.

Prior to that, law enforcement officers served a notice of suspicion of misappropriation of budget funds and falsification of official documents to the head of the construction company. She is suspected of embezzling UAH 1.3 million from a shelter project in Kherson. She currently faces up to 8 years in prison.

In addition, an accountant of one of the village councils in Kherson region was suspected of embezzlement. The investigation established that the 55-year-old accused worked as an accountant in one of the village councils of Kherson district. When calculating bonuses for employees in 2023, the woman increased salaries that did not correspond to the staffing table. In addition, she unreasonably accrued bonuses and surcharges.
