A former employee of a penal colony in Kherson will be tried for collaborating with the occupiers and violating the laws of war.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

They noted that they had sent an indictment to the court against a former employee of the Northern Correctional Colony No. 90, who went over to the enemy during the occupation of the city and took the position of "first deputy chief" in an illegally created penitentiary structure.

The investigation found that in October-November 2022, he, together with representatives of the occupation administration, organized the transfer of convicts to other colonies, in particular to Holoprystan Correctional Colony No. 7, and later the deportation of more than 1500 people to Russia and the temporarily occupied territories.

Also, since December 2022, he has involved some prisoners in forced labor - they were forced to carry stones and rubble for the foundation of a new pre-trial detention center, dig holes for water supply and perform other physically exhausting tasks under escort.

In addition, he is a defendant in another criminal proceeding related to the ill-treatment of civilians. The trial in this case is ongoing.

Earlier, Intent reported about a former employee of the Northern Correctional Colony No. 90 who went over to the enemy and carried out criminal orders and instructions of the occupiers for money.

Earlier, the court found the former penal colony employee guilty of high treason committed under martial law. The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of his special rank of major of the internal service.

In addition, the former head of the Kherson colony, who ordered the forced transfer of 97 prisoners from the Snihurivka colony, was put on trial.

In the fall of 2023, the Center for Public Investigations released a film "Who Kidnapped the Prisoners of the Snihuriv Correctional Colony in the Village of Tsentralne".
