Former Kherson City Council official betrayed the country

In Kherson, a former city council official who voluntarily worked for the occupiers was served a notice of suspicion. She held a position in the illegal administration and carried out orders of the Russian invaders.

This is stated in the suspicion of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Investigators served a notice of suspicion to Svitlana Serhiivna Vershinina, born on August 16, 1979, a citizen of Ukraine. The woman is suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - voluntarily holding a position in illegal authorities in the temporarily occupied territory.

According to the investigation, during the occupation of Kherson, Vershinina held a position in the structure of the so-called "military-civilian administration of the Kherson region" created by Russian troops.

She performed administrative functions, including controlling the activities of local utilities and coordinating the work of educational institutions to ensure that they were subordinate to the occupation authorities.

The investigation established several specific facts:

According to the investigation, her activities contributed to the legalization of the occupation regime and violation of Ukraine's sovereignty.

The pre-trial investigation is currently underway, and law enforcement officers are checking all the circumstances and evidence of Vershinina's involvement in the occupation administration. The woman faces imprisonment under the maximum sanction provided by the current legislation under Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the phone book of officials, before the war, Vershinina worked as a state registrar in the Kherson City Council, registering rights to real estate and their encumbrances.

The director of the Palace of Creativity in Kherson region was also notified of suspicion of high treason and a custodial measure of restraint was chosen. According to the investigation, she facilitated the integration of the institution into the educational system of the aggressor country and supported the occupation administration. Under her leadership, Ukrainian symbols were replaced with Russian ones in the Genichesk Palace of Children and Youth Creativity, and new signs appeared on the facade of the institution.
