Former Head of the Simferopol Penitentiary Sentenced for Treason

The former warden of the Simferopol correctional colony was sentenced to 14 years in prison with confiscation of property for treason. After the occupation of Crimea, the official defected to the enemy and took charge of the occupation correctional colony.

This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol.

According to the investigation, immediately after the seizure of Crimea, the man, in violation of his oath, entered the service of the enemy. He headed the occupation correctional colony in Simferopol.

While serving under the occupiers, the defendant assisted representatives of the aggressor state in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine and also took a direct part in establishing the occupying authorities on the peninsula.

Under his leadership, Simferopol Penal Colony No. 102 became one of the key locations for the detention and transit of Ukrainian citizens, political prisoners, Crimean Tatar activists, and individuals detained during searches.

Prior to the occupation of the peninsula in 2014, Correctional Colony No. 102 in Simferopol was headed by Vadim Bulgakov. He had already been promoted to the rank of colonel of the internal service within the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN).

As previously reported by Intent, the prosecutor’s office filed an indictment against a host of the pro-Russian television channel“Millet” in Crimea. The journalist faces up to 10 years in prison for spreading Kremlin propaganda and publicly calling for changes to Ukraine’s state borders.
