Former dean of several law schools dies in Odesa

Borys Perezhniak, a lecturer at the National University "Odesa Law Academy" and dean of several faculties over the years, has died at the age of 74.

This was announced by the Honorary President of the Law Academy Serhii Kivalov.

"He devoted a significant part of his professional life - almost three decades - to the National University "Odesa Law Academy", where he headed the Faculty of Public Administration, the Faculty of Postgraduate Education and the Faculty of Distance Learning, remaining an example of a wise and principled leader for the staff," he said.

Borys Perezhniak was born on January 2, 1952, in the village of Stare Holovlevo, Domanivskyi district of what was then Odesa and is now Mykolaiv region. He studied at the I. I. Mechnikov Odesa National University and since September 1993 has been the head of the Faculty of State Building and Administration of the Law Institute at the university.

From January 1998 to August 2005 he was Dean of the Faculty of Public Administration and International Legal Relations of the Odesa National Law Academy. Since August 2005, he has been Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education, and since June 2007, Dean of the Faculty of Distance Learning of the Odesa National Law Academy. In January 2006, he was elected to the position of Professor of the Department of Constitutional Law.

He was a freelance consultant to the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement and the Fight against Organized Crime and Corruption of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the III convocation, a freelance advisor on scientific issues to the Minister of Justice of Ukraine (2000-2002). From 2002 to 2011, he was a member of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region. Member of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine and the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Yurydychnyi Visnyk magazine in Odesa.
