On May 8, doctors in the village of Safiany, Izmail district, Odesa region, reported to the police that seven students of one of the lyceums of the Safiany community had been taken to the hospital with poisoning by an unknown substance.

This was reported by the police press service.

The police found that during the break, the fifth-graders took pills that one of their classmates brought as vitamins. After that, everyone felt sick. Police are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the origin of the substance that could have caused the children's poisoning. Based on the results of the inspection, the incident will be legally qualified.

In the spring of 2025, a mass poisoning of children was also recorded in the Safianivka community in the Izmail district. At that time, doctors published the results of an investigation into the outbreak of norovirus infection in one of the schools in the Izmail district of Odesa region: the cause was a violation in the food unit. An outbreak of acute intestinal infection of norovirus etiology was recorded among students of the Broske secondary school.

The results of the investigation, published by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, confirmed that the outbreak was caused by a gross violation of sanitary and hygienic and anti-epidemic regimes in the school's catering department. The institution was issued an order to eliminate the violations of sanitary legislation, and the authorities were informed by an official letter.

In December 2024, three children died in the village of Nerubaiske, near Odesa. Two girls, aged three and five, and their seven-year-old brother consumed an unknown substance at home while their mother was doing household chores, which allegedly made them sick. The 30-year-old woman found her children in serious condition and called doctors. The doctors diagnosed poisoning with an unknown substance and tried to save the children, but in vain.
