Viktor Syrota, former secretary of the Oleshky City Council of Kherson Oblast, was found guilty of collaborating with the Russian occupation administrations. The court sentenced him to nine years in prison with confiscation of property.

This was reported by IPC South with reference to the court's verdict.

According to the investigation, after the occupation of part of the Kherson region by Russian troops, the official voluntarily agreed to cooperate with the occupation administration and joined the work of the authorities created by the invaders.

Investigators found that Syrota helped the occupiers organize the activities of pseudo-local governments in the temporarily occupied Oleshky. In particular, he participated in the formation of structures controlled by the Russian authorities and helped to establish their work.

Law enforcement officers note that such activities were aimed at supporting and legitimizing the Russian occupation administration in the occupied territory of Kherson region.

The court found the former official guilty of collaboration and sentenced him to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The verdict was passed in absentia, as the convict is currently in the temporarily occupied territory or outside it. He will serve his sentence after his arrest.

Law enforcement agencies emphasize that the investigation into the facts of cooperation with the Russian occupiers in the Kherson region continues, and those involved in collaboration are being brought to justice.

Earlier, Intent wrote that law enforcement officers served a notice of suspicion to a resident of the temporarily occupied Crimea, who headed the illegal administration of the occupiers in the village of Kozachi Lageri in Kherson region.

In addition, prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office sent indictments to the court against two residents of the region on the fact of voluntary election to illegal authorities.

Both defendants are actively engaged in public activities aimed at creating a positive image of illegal authorities. They participate in sessions and make decisions in favor of the aggressor state.
