Prosecutors of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office have served eight officials of the Odesa City Council and the director of an enterprise with suspicion of embezzlement of budget funds, forgery and negligence.

This was reported by the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Among those involved in budgetary fraud is the former head of the Capital Construction Department of the Odesa City Council, who is suspected of embezzling funds while fulfilling the terms of contracts for the development of project documentation.

A technical supervision engineer of the City Council's Capital Construction Department has the status of a suspect for improper performance of duties during the technical supervision of the overhaul of a maternity hospital. According to the prosecutors, the chief accountant of the Primary Health Care Center No. 4 was also involved in the budgetary schemes, as he improperly performed his duties and unlawfully included VAT in the cost of purchasing medical equipment.

Prosecutors also served notices of suspicion to the head of the Odesa Electrotechnical Maintenance and Installation Enterprise, his deputy and an engineer of the enterprise.

According to the investigation, the suspects misused humanitarian power generators received from foreign partners and Ukrainian government agencies. Instead of providing power to critical infrastructure facilities, the generators were used near restaurants, car washes, and private homes.

The amount of damage caused by the illegal actions of the budget reaches more than UAH 7 million.

It all started when journalist Iryna Hryb reported that generators were found in the Vinobroteria restaurant owned by Olga Grytsenko, who is said to be the girlfriend of Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov. Also, one generator was found at the residence of Vitaliy Tsurenko, deputy director of the Department of Municipal Economy of the Odesa City Council, the mayor himself, and at the CARat car wash.
