Police have detained a 30-year-old man who opened fire in Reni Park, Odesa region.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the incident occurred a few days ago in the evening in the city of Reni.

A local resident reported to the police that an unknown person had started shooting at vacationers in the park, including her 13-year-old son. The people were not injured, but they were scared. Law enforcement officers detained the shooter, who was trying to escape, and seized a pistol with a pre-traumatic effect from him, as well as a bullet from the crime scene. They were sent for expert examination.

The police found out that the shooter was a resident of the neighboring region. While intoxicated, he fired a pistol for no reason to scare people while walking. The detainee explained that alcohol was to blame.

The shooter's actions were preliminarily classified as hooliganism with the use of an object specially adapted or prepared in advance to inflict bodily harm. If found guilty, he faces imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.

At the end of July, a shooting also occurred in Odesa - a conflict arose between local villagers, during which one of the men fired a hunting rifle towards a car with a group of people near it.

In June, unidentified persons shot a young man in the back of the head in the center of Odesa and injured him. A local resident had a conflict with unknown persons, during which he was wounded. In March, at about 10:30 a.m. in the center of Odesa, a man fired several shots at Demian Hanul. He died on the spot from his injuries. The man suspected of killing the activist was detained the same day.
