The presentation of the documentary film Demian Hanul. An Unfinished Story" took place at the Odesa Film Studio on May 3.

As Myroslava Bondarenko, the author of the film, told Intent, the team is not planning any repeat screenings, but it is possible that they will be held.

The activist began working on the film in November 2025.

"We spent several months recording interviews and a lot of time editing. The film was made for Odesa residents, for public figures. With this film, we wanted to preserve the memory of Demian Hanul and encourage people to follow the path of the activist," said Myroslava Bondarenko.

Myroslava Bondarenko would like this film to be screened at a film festival because, in her opinion, Demian Hanul is worth talking about, because again, according to the author of the film, the activist is a hero of Ukraine and a man who gave his life for the sake of Odesa.

On March 14, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m. in the center of Odesa, a man fired several shots at Demian Hanul. He died on the spot from his injuries.

On April 21, the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa did not reach the final stage of the case of the murder of public figure Demian Hanul. Despite the parties' readiness to start the court debate, the hearing was postponed to May following a motion filed by the defense of the accused , Serhiy Shalaev.

The day before, during the hearing, Shalaev said that the contacts of a person who introduced himself as an "SBU officer" were allegedly given to him by his own mother. The defendant claimed that he hoped that he would be transferred from the Armed Forces to the special service because of this acquaintance.

On March 16, the judges, having conferred in a conference room, extended the pre-trial restraint in the form of detention in a pre-trial detention center for 60 days - until May 14, 2026. The amount of bail was not determined. The prosecutor also requested to examine video materials, in particular from CCTV cameras and an investigative experiment, but for technical reasons, the video could not be played.
