A Ukrainian court has sentenced in absentia a militant of the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" who abused a local resident during the temporary occupation of the Kalynivka community. Despite the fact that the invader is currently in hiding, the law clearly defined his fate - 12 years in prison.

This was reported by the Kherson regional police on Facebook.

The convict was a resident of Debaltseve with a criminal record who joined the occupation forces as a driver for one of the terrorist regiments. The investigation established that in August 2022, the militant and a group of armed accomplices broke into the private home of a local resident.

Under the pretext of searching for ATO participants and patriotic citizens, the occupiers interrogated her. They subjected the woman to psychological pressure, beat her and threatened her with weapons, trying to intimidate her with shots from an assault rifle. Having turned the house into a place for his feasts, the militant behaved particularly cynically, humiliating the woman' s dignity . During this illegal 'search', he committed an act of physical violence, taking advantage of the victim's defenseless state. After a night of terror, the occupants left the house only in the morning, threatening to return.

On the same day, the victim left for Kherson, where she stayed until the de-occupation of the right-bank part of the region. This allowed law enforcement officers to record the testimony and collect the evidence necessary to convict the occupier.

The Kherson City Court also put an end to the long-running criminal proceedings against former Mayor Volodymyr Mykolayenko. Despite the length of the investigation and the seriousness of the incriminated articles, the court decided to close the case, effectively releasing the former official from liability.
