Dmytro Velychko appointed to head the Department of Culture in Odesa

Acting Mayor of Odesa Ihor Koval has appointed Dmytro Velychko as acting director of the Department of International Cooperation, Culture and Marketing.

The corresponding order was published by the press service of the Odesa City Council.

Dmytro Velychko is an artist and dean of the Faculty of Art and Graphic Arts of the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushynsky. He also heads the Motivator NGO and the Power of Ukrainian Art Charitable Organization.

In April 2025, Dmytro Velychko gave an interview to the Int. In it, he spoke about contemporary students, artist diplomas, the isolation of Odesa artists and institutions. He also talked about the difference in colors, images of artists, art for oneself, and stereotypes about artists.

Since 2012, he has been a lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts of the Faculty of Art and Graphic Arts of the National Pedagogical University of Ukraine (theory and practice of drawing, theory and practice of painting, theory and practice of composition, educational (artistic and creative) practice). In 2015, he became the deputy dean of the faculty. Currently, he is the dean.

Also in 2012, Dmytro Velychko was admitted to the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, and in 2019 he became a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. He did an internship abroad at the University of Economics in Krakow. The author's scientific achievements include 10 scientific publications on the theory and practice of painting, educational practice, 14 certificates of copyright registration for the work. Organizer of international scientific and practical conferences "Preservation and development of plein air traditions: art education and art tourism" at the Ushynsky University. Included in the publication "The Golden Fund of the Nation. Ukrainians: Creativity, Innovation, Investment 2019".

The previous director of the department , Ivan Liptuga, resigned from this position at the end of November. On the eve of his dismissal, the NGO Decolonization. Ukraine" issued an appeal to the heads of Odesa MVA Serhiy Lysak and acting mayor Ihor Koval demanding the dismissal of Ivan Liptuga. Ivan Liptuga was appointed head of the Department of Culture in January 2023.
