Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Odesa region exposed the director of a research institute for diverting funds that were supposed to be spent on compulsory social insurance to other expenses.

According to the BES press service, the company, which specializes in growing grapes, received a stable income from its activities and was able to pay the contribution. However, the director allocated funds for other payments that were not a priority.

In total, such non-priority expenses amounted to UAH 16.5 million, which led to the formation of unified social contribution arrears. As a result, the social insurance funds did not receive almost UAH 1.7 million.

The director has now been notified of suspicion of intentional evasion of the unified social tax. The indictment was sent to court. During the pre-trial investigation, the company partially reimbursed the state for the losses in the amount of UAH 880 thousand.

Earlier, detectives of the Economic Security Bureau in Odesa region exposed a group of people who organized the illegal sale of hookah tobacco. The BES also uncovered a tax evasion scheme involving the export of corn through the port of Odesa. The offenders bought grain for cash and tried to legalize it through controlled companies, planning to ship it to Malaysia. The scheme participants bought grain from farmers all over Ukraine for cash, without paying VAT. In order to legalize the products and receive a tax credit, they transferred cash in the amount of 14% of the value of the goods to their companies' accounts and issued tax invoices.
