The Mykolaiv Regional Council plans to ask the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Ukraine for assistance in developing an architectural concept for a new administrative building. This refers to the building that was destroyed as a result of a Russian missile strike on March 29, 2022.

The standing committee of the Mykolaiv Regional Council on Science, Education, Innovation, Youth, Family, Sports, Culture, and Spirituality considered this matter. The deputies supported the proposal to include the request on the agenda and submit it for consideration at the extraordinary 39th session of the regional council.

As committee chair Yevhen Gorburov noted, following the building’s destruction, the possibility of cooperation with representatives of the Danish Embassy had already been discussed. Now, the regional council intends to send an official appeal to the diplomatic mission.

Tetyana Labartkava, Chief of Staff of the Regional Council’s Executive Office, explained that at this stage, the focus is on creating an architectural concept and visualizations of the future building. The development of design and cost estimate documentation will be considered at a later stage.

The letter proposes exploring the possibility of supporting a competition to develop an architectural concept for the new regional council building with the involvement of Danish architectural firms. The deputies also wish to secure informational and expert support, specifically assistance in disseminating information about the competition among Danish architects and European expert institutions.

In addition, the regional council requests that the possibility of grant or advisory support be considered within the framework of existing cooperation programs between Denmark and Ukraine.

They propose that the future building be viewed not only as an administrative facility but also as an open space for interaction between the authorities and the region’s residents. The appeal emphasizes the need to incorporate modern architectural solutions, energy efficiency, accessibility for people with disabilities, and the provision of a shelter.

The document also notes that the reconstruction should serve as a symbol of the restoration of democratic institutions and the resilience of local self-government.

The building on Admiralska Street in Mykolaiv was destroyed during a Russian missile strike on March 29, 2022. It housed the Mykolaiv Regional Council, the regional military administration, and the Commercial Court. People were killed as a result of the attack.
