The court found a resident of the temporarily occupied Crimea guilty of cooperating with the Russian occupation authorities in Kherson region and supporting armed aggression against Ukraine. The man was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison.

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, in September 2023, a 52-year-old resident of Crimea took part in illegal elections organized by the occupation authorities in the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region. He ran as a candidate of the Russian United Russia party for the so-called Kherson Regional Duma, a body created by the occupiers to imitate local government.

After receiving the mandate, the man became the so-called "Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Budget" in this pseudo-legislative body. In this position, he actually contributed to the functioning of the occupation administration and the implementation of the decisions of the aggressor state in the occupied territory.

The prosecutor's office notes that in the status of a deputy, he regularly appeared at public events organized by the occupation authorities. During such events, he made statements and calls in support of the Russian regime, and justified armed aggression against Ukraine.

In addition to political activities in the interests of the occupiers, the convict was involved in supporting the Russian military. According to the investigation, he systematically transferred humanitarian aid to the military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces, and also participated in the organization of their material support and social support.

The court found the man guilty of collaboration and justifying Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison. In addition to imprisonment, the court also deprived him of the right to hold any public office for 15 years.

Also, two deputies from Kherson region were suspected by the SBU of collaborating with the occupation authorities of the Russian Federation. Both actively helped the invaders manage the community and form the budget of the occupation administration.
